Indonesia is the fourth largest coffee exporter in the world. Because of its many different islands, it has a variety of different coffees, ranging from Robusta to specially Arabica. Sumatra is the most famous of these islands.
Sumatra is known for its extremely distinct and unique coffees. Sumatra coffee production began in the 17th century when it was imported to Indonesia from Europe by the Dutch East India Company. The Aceh highlands give the beans earthy, spicy tones and unique characteristics and flavors, such as dark chocolate, caramel, and black tea. Most coffee in Sumatra is wet hulled (a harvesting process) resulting in more moisture and rich, rustic flavors.

Our coffee is packaged in high barrier layered bags designed to eliminate moisture and sunlight. The bags also contain one way valves which allow the beans to degass on their own. This combination allows the beans to stay fresh for weeks on the counter or in a cabinet. We do not recommend refrigerating or freezing the beans.

The flavor notes of this single origin bean are enhanced when brewed as a drip, a pour-over, french press, cold brew, or espresso.
